You Can Do It Matching and becoming a licensed physician in the US is the goal of many medical students and physicians trained outside the US. While it may not seem easy, the process is fairly straightforward. Set goals on accomplishing each of these steps and you will be able to succeed in your goal. Matching in your desired specialty, even the competitive ones can be done. Organize Your Time Planning ahead will save you time, energy, headache and money. Decide early on whether you’ll be pursuing one of the more competitive specialties. Carefully plan your testing schedule and your goals for when you will complete your application. Budget your time and money so you can maximize your dollars in terms of the number of programs you apply to and how many interviews you can expect. The entire residency match process is an organizational challenge, so be sure to plan properly. Making a checklist of things you need to accomplish will go a long way to improving your chances of a successful and efficient match. Ask for Help Too many IMGs try to do everything by themselves. If you are already living in the US, working in hospitals or around clinicians, then be sure to ask for help. You should be asking people to read your personal statement for ideas, grammar, and ideas. IMG Resources: (know of another one? contact us!) AMA Section on International Medical Graduates
