A new article has appeared in the Resident & Staff Physician journal’s March 2004 that has a very interesting little “study” that surveyed residents on their beliefs. It’s findings
22% Generally superstitious
32% Superstitious about call
48% Avoided the word “quiet”
65% Avoided the ED to ease call
34% Believed in call night “themes” (similiar types of admissions on a given night)
9% Had lucky scrubs or talismans
Finally! It’s in a published medical journal! Now all we need is a randomized control trial!
