Happy New Year

So, the new year is upon us! Can you believe it is 2004?
The Fool has been hard at work, resting until next month when the Fool will embark upon an inpatient medicine rotations (ugh), at Major Government Hospital USA. Should be some interesting stories from that institution.

And in other news, you’ll be shocked to hear that a recent “study” mentioned in AAPNews (American Academy of Pediatrics) has “found” that kids who watch TV are fatter, and eat unhealthy foods. Fascinating (insert sarcasm here). Then they go on to blame the advertising by McDonalds and other unhealthy companies for the trend of unhealthy eating habits. [They make this connection without any data] How about instead pointing the blame @ the parents (the ones who actually BUY the food, instead?)

Hey, don’t get me wrong. I agree that kids who watch alot of TV are gonna be fat (pretty obvious), and they probably don’t eat as well either. I take issue that this article makes the connection and blames TV advertising without showing any evidence. They could have done a RCT showing kids 3 hours of cartoons with McD ads, and 3 hours of the same cartoons with messages from the California Raisins, then weigh the kids after 3 months to see who was still fat. Surprise! They BOTH will be!! Just shows you again, how the AAP continues to promote “research” that points out the blatantly obvious!

Anyways! Hope you enjoy your 2004, and begin that diet that all Americans plan for each New Year!
